How to Cancel Your Planet Fitness Membership
Planet Fitness clubs are franchise owned, which is why cancellation rules differ from club to club. Online cancellation now exists in some accounts, but many locations still require you to cancel in person at your home club or by mailed letter. Phone and email cancellations are not accepted at most clubs.
Your home club is the only club that can process the cancellation. A certified letter to that club with your membership ID creates dated proof they cannot argue with.

Cancellation generally must reach your home club by the 10th of the month to stop the next monthly draft, and before the 25th of the month prior to your annual fee date to avoid that charge. Some contracts carry a buyout fee of up to $58.
Why a certified letter beats every other method
Gym cancellations fail for one reason: no proof. Front desk staff forget, forms get lost, phone reps say one thing and the billing system does another. A cancellation letter sent by USPS Certified Mail with return receipt gives you a delivery date the gym signed for. If billing continues past your notice period, that green card is the evidence your bank needs to reverse the charges.
- Check your agreement first. Find your notice period, billing date, and any early termination fee so your letter states the correct final billing date.
- Send the letter certified. Address it to your home club, since each franchise owns its own memberships. Keep the receipt and tracking number.
- Watch your next two statements. One final draft inside the notice period is normal. Anything after that gets disputed with your proof of delivery attached.
